    Questions and Answers:

What are Restylane and Perlane used for?

The dermal filler injectable is used to add volume and fullness to the skin, correcting moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, or the marionette lines or for lip enhancement. The injected gel gives natural volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out.

    How is the treatment performed?

Dermal Filler is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a thin needle.  The method is fast and safe offers immediate results and leaves no scars or other traces on the face.

    Do the injections hurt?

We use a very strong topical numbing cream on the skin (usually applied 30 minutes) prior to the injections. The Restylane or Perlane also contain lidocaine in the syringe with the filler agent, so you will get more numb as the injections are being done.

How long does the filling effect last?

This varies from person to person, but generally speaking the first time you treat with either product in the lower face (around the mouth area), the results will last around 6 months. If you then repeat your treatment when the results start to dissipate, it usually requires less product, and the results are longer lasting. Areas which are less mobile (such as around the eye area or upper face) require treatment less frequently as the results are longer lasting.

Are there specific instructions to follow around the time of my treatment?

You should avoid taking the following medications for at least 7 days prior to your injections to minimize bruising:

    • Any type of anti-inflammatory medication – including Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aleve, etc.
    • Any type of Omega-3 supplements such as fish oil, flax seed oil, etc.
    • Vitamin E.

We also recommend using either Bromelain or Arnica to help prevent bruising. The Arnica comes in two forms: oral pill and a topical gel form.  The Bromelain tablets 500mg reduces swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness that can result in tissue injury – we recommend you use both, but not required. Arnica has many natural ingredients for healing. You can start the use of the Bromelain pills 3-7 days before your treatment and continue the pills and add the Arnica gel afterward until any bruising is gone. This will cut the healing time by half. You can purchase these products in the homeopathic section at any health food store such as Central Market, GNC, Market Street, Sprouts, Sunflower Shop, or Vitamin Shoppe.

You will receive after care instructions the day of your treatment.
